This is a photo of the southern part of Death Valley basin (Badwater Basin)taken from Dante's View. Dante's View is a viewpoint terrace at 5,476 feet along the crest of the Black Mountains. What looks like white clouds is actually the salt and minerals left behind after water covering the valley basin evaporates. The arc in the lower left hand of the photo is part of the road through the valley basin. The snow-capped mountain in the distance is Telescope Peak, which is part of the Panamint Range.
I guess I've had an off-and-on love affair with photography my whole life. My father was always taking pictures and movies when I was a kid growing up on Long Island, NY in the 1950s-60s, and he gave me my own Kodak Brownie camera when I was around 6 years old. I remember using it to take pictures of family events and a trip to Washington DC, back in 1958. I still have some of the pictures ....... somewhere. Photography moved to the back burner during high school, college, and law school, but I picked it up again after I graduated law school in 1979, moved to Washington DC, and began my legal career with the federal government.
