Description
A closeup of some shoots of barley in a field at springtime in the United States National Arboretum in Washington, DC. The Arboretum is a 446 acre oasis of calm and beauty tucked into the northeast corner of the city. Established by an act of Congress in 1927, the Arboretum is a major botanical center, conducting research on trees, flowering plants, shrubs, turf, and plants, and it has a library with 11,000 volumes and approximately 100 publications concentrating in botanical literature. Its beautiful collections are linked by roads and paths which are often fairly quiet, except in the spring when crowds visit to see the azaleas, rhododendrons, and magnolias bloom in stunningly beautiful displays.
