Description
The ruins of the Castle Moil reflecting in the harbor of the fishing village of Kyleakin, on the Isle of Skye, in Scotland. The castle is known by various other names, including Castle Maol, Dun Akyn, Dunakin Castle, Dun Haakon, and Castle Dunakin. It was an ancient seat and fortress of the Mackinnon clan, and commanded the strait of Kyle Akin between Skye and the mainland. The present building dates back to the 15th century, but traditions have it going back to much earlier Norse times. Time, storms, and lightning strikes have almost completely destroyed the castle.
