The ruins and cemetery of Cill Chriosd, a former parish church of Strath, on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. The church was constructed around the 16th century, replacing an earlier Medieval church on the same location, and was used until 1840 when the Parish church was relocated. The church's location is thought to have a heritage of Christian worship dating back to the 7th century, but most graves are from the 18th and 19th centuries and are connected to Clan MacKinnon.
The church and cemetery are surrounded by a metal fence with an entry gate that has a sign asking that the gate be kept closed to keep sheep out of the cemetery. Despite being closed when I got there, sheep were grazing throughout the grounds. They managed to stay out of this photo for me, and I was fortunate to have a wonderfully dramatic sky to capture the ruins and grounds.
I guess I've had an off-and-on love affair with photography my whole life. My father was always taking pictures and movies when I was a kid growing up on Long Island, NY in the 1950s-60s, and he gave me my own Kodak Brownie camera when I was around 6 years old. I remember using it to take pictures of family events and a trip to Washington DC, back in 1958. I still have some of the pictures ....... somewhere. Photography moved to the back burner during high school, college, and law school, but I picked it up again after I graduated law school in 1979, moved to Washington DC, and began my legal career with the federal government. Being alone in a new city, I would take my camera wherever I went, and I was soon making my own prints in...
