I didn't have high expectations for this sunrise shoot in Ourem, Portugal, because it started with just dark clouds overhead. Then, some clearing in the east allowed the sun to shine through and light the clouds in the distance with beautiful shades of yellow, orange, and red. A layer of fog in the valley below just added to a magical scene.
Ourem is a town and municiplaity in central Portugal. The small medieval town, which sits atop a hill and offers beautiful views of the valley, is mostly visited for its ruined castle and palace, which date back to the Moorish occupation that began in the eighth century.
