While traveling through the southern island of New Zealand, I took a small plane flight from Queenstown to Milford Sound. This flight requires negotiating the Humboldt, Aisla, and Darran mountain ranges. The plane, however, did not seem to go over the mountains as much as pass through gaps in the ranges, coming so close to these snow-capped peaks that it felt that I could reach out and touch them.
I guess I've had an off-and-on love affair with photography my whole life. My father was always taking pictures and movies when I was a kid growing up on Long Island, NY in the 1950s-60s, and he gave me my own Kodak Brownie camera when I was around 6 years old. I remember using it to take pictures of family events and a trip to Washington DC, back in 1958. I still have some of the pictures ....... somewhere. Photography moved to the back burner during high school, college, and law school, but I picked it up again after I graduated law school in 1979, moved to Washington DC, and began my legal career with the federal government.
