During the Devonian period of the Paleozoic Era, about 380 million years ago, the Sahara Desert in Morocco wasn't a desert and was, in fact, underwater. Fish, plants and other ancient marine animals thrived until climate conditions changed and that ocean ultimately became desert and mountains. Fossil remains of this prehistoric life were preserved in marble and limestone rocks, and some towns in that region of Morocco, like Erfoud, have factories that turn the fossilized rocks into beautiful pieces of decorative art and furniture. This image shows a small portion of a large slab of fossils embedded in polished marble and is awaiting further work.
I guess I've had an off-and-on love affair with photography my whole life. My father was always taking pictures and movies when I was a kid growing up on Long Island, NY in the 1950s-60s, and he gave me my own Kodak Brownie camera when I was around 6 years old. I remember using it to take pictures of family events and a trip to Washington DC, back in 1958. I still have some of the pictures ....... somewhere. Photography moved to the back burner during high school, college, and law school, but I picked it up again after I graduated law school in 1979, moved to Washington DC, and began my legal career with the federal government.
