Description
A pile of garlic bulbs for sale at a market in the medina of Meknes, Morocco. The food section of the Meknes medina was a still life photographers dream. The food selections span the gamut from fish to deserts, to spices, and to fruits and vegetables. Some foods are artfully arranged and presented, and others, like the garlic shown here, were just heaped in large baskets or trays.
Dating back to the 11th century, Meknes is one of the four Imperial cities of Morocco, and the sixth largest city in the country. While it's medina is somewhat small compared to those in some of Morocco's other cities, like Marrakesh and Fes, it has, nevertheless, been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
