Description
One of the highlights of my trip to Morocco was a visit to Erg Chebbi -- one of Morocco's several large seas of dunes formed by wind-blown sand. While the ergs are within an area of semi-arid Pre-Saharan Steppes, and not technically part of the Sahara desert which lies some distance to the south, it sure looked like how I had always imagined the Sahara Desert would look.
Would I never imagined, though, was that it would be raining when I got there. Fortunately the rain stopped shortly after I arrived, but you can see the lingering storm clouds behind the dunes in the distance. The sand was also darker and firmer than it would be after it quickly dried out the next day. Of course, the rain was a blessing to all those who live in that arid area, but it also gave photographers a somewhat different view.
