Description
Highland cows are Scotland icons. Often called hairy coos, the breed has a heritage stretching back to the days of the clans. They originated in the Highlands and Outer Hebrides islands and are mainly raised for beef. Their distinguishing features are their long horns and long, wavy, woolly coats.
I saw this cow in a pasture near Glencoe, in the Scottish Highlands. There were about 7 or 8 eight of them near a fence by the road, and they seemed very gentle and friendly, though I had no interest in testing that theory. They wandered very close to the fence and seemed to happily pose for some photos. I was able to crouch very low and shoot up through the fence to capture this cow's profile against a dramatic sky.
