Description
A highland cow in a pasture near Glencoe, in the Scottish Highlands. It seemed very gentle and friendly, though I had no interest in testing that theory, even after it wandered very close to the fence and seemed to happily pose for some photos. I crouched low and shot up through the fence to capture the cow against a dramatic sky.
Highland cows are Scotland icons. Often called hairy coos, the breed has a heritage stretching back to the days of the clans. They originated in the Highlands and Outer Hebrides islands and are mainly raised for beef. Their distinguishing features are their long horns and long, wavy, woolly coats.
