Description
Several of Czech sculpture Matthias Bernard Braun's Virtues and the Vices - 24 women representing the good and the bad in all of us. They are examples of Czech Baroque art, and are found at the Kuks Hospital in the Czech Republic, or Czechia.
Kuks is a small village situated in East Bohemia, that was known for the purported medicinal qualities of the local springs. In the late 1600's and early 1700's a wealthy count developed the area into what he hoped would be a world renown health spa. One of the buildings he constructed was an army veterans hospital. Since 1946, the hospital building has been used as a museum of baroque art and Czech pharmacy. Currently owned by the state, the hospital was declared a National Monument of the Czech Republic in 1995.
