A black and white photo of Lake Louise in the spring of 2014. Spring came late to the Canadian Rockies that year. It was the second week in June and Lake Louise, a glacier-fed lake in Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada, was still partially frozen. It was, however, completely beautiful, and the lake was sufficiently thawed to show the sky and mountains' reflections, including the Upper and Lower Victoria Glaciers.

I guess I've had an off-and-on love affair with photography my whole life. My father was always taking pictures and movies when I was a kid growing up on Long Island, NY in the 1950s-60s, and he gave me my own Kodak Brownie camera when I was around 6 years old. I remember using it to take pictures of family events and a trip to Washington DC, back in 1958. I still have some of the pictures ....... somewhere. Photography moved to the back burner during high school, college, and law school, but I picked it up again after I graduated law school in 1979, moved to Washington DC, and began my legal career with the federal government.
