Description
The Fox Glacier is an 8-mile long glacier located in Westland Tai Poutini National Park on the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island. Fed by four alpine glaciers, Fox Glacier falls 8,500 ft on its journey from the Southern Alps down to the coast, with it having the distinction of being one of the few glaciers to end among lush rainforest only 980 feet above sea level. When I was in New Zealand, I had the great fortune and fun of taking a helicopter flight that landed on the glacier, and I was able to get out and walk a short bit. This is one of the photos I took while standing on the glacier.
