Description
A young Japanese snow monkey adopts a pose and expression that prompts all manner of interpretation. Excuse me, and pardon me came to my mind first. I almost named the photo living from hand to mouth, which may have been more apt because it had probably just put some food into its mouth. Whatever the reason behind the pose, watching snow monkeys in winter at Jigokudani Yaen-Koen, the Snow Monkey Park in the Nagano prefecture of Japan was one of the highlights of my trip to Japan. The park is an area of natural hot springs with a man-made pool where Japanese Macaque monkeys take refuge from the winter cold by bathing in the warm water.
