While traveling through the southern island of New Zealand, I took a small plane flight from Queenstown to Milford Sound. This is the view of the countryside as the plane took off from the small airport outside Queenstown. Our pilot explained that the Lord of the Rings scenes featuring the hobbits' home of The Shire, were filmed in this area.

I guess I've had an off-and-on love affair with photography my whole life. My father was always taking pictures and movies when I was a kid growing up on Long Island, NY in the 1950s-60s, and he gave me my own Kodak Brownie camera when I was around 6 years old. I remember using it to take pictures of family events and a trip to Washington DC, back in 1958. I still have some of the pictures ....... somewhere. Photography moved to the back burner during high school, college, and law school, but I picked it up again after I graduated law school in 1979, moved to Washington DC, and began my legal career with the federal government.
