Description
The main town square, with its checkerboard pattern tile street, in Tomar, Portugal. Tomar is a historically significant city and municipality in central Portugal and is the home of the Convento de Cristo, or the Convent of Christ, which was originally a 12th-century Knights Templar stronghold and is now a historic and cultural monument that is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The church here in the square, is the Church of Saint John the Baptist, Sao Joao Baptista in Portuguese, and is Tomar's main church. It was built between the 15th and 16th centuries.
