Description
A portion of the trail framed by approximately 1000 torii gates at the Fushimi Inari-taisha Shinto shrine in Kyoto, Japan. A torii is a traditional Japanese gate most commonly found at the entrance to or within a Shinto shrine, where it symbolically marks the transition from the mundane to the sacred. Each of the gates at the Fushimi Inari-taisha shrine was donated by a Japanese business. Structures at the shrine date back to the early 700's, and the custom of donating a torii started to spread during the Edo period (1603 – 1868) either to get a wish to become true or to thank for a wish that became true.
