Description
In the 1930s, landscape architects transformed Mason’s Island in the Potomac River in Washington, DC, from neglected, overgrown farmland into Theodore Roosevelt Island, a memorial to America’s 26th president. There, you can now hike miles of trails through wooded uplands and swampy bottomlands, a perfect back-to-nature getaway for those of stuck inside the city during the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic. Of course, the Island is also a lovely getaway under any circumstances.
One of the trails through lovely woods takes you near the underpass of a nearby highway bridge. I thought its rusted, gritty, industrial shapes and feel were perfect for a black and white image.
