I took this picture in the early 1980s on 35mm slide film. After reading an article in a photo magazine about subjecting slides to heat to create special effects, I held a match under the slide to warp and bubble the image, but the resulting slide was unimpressive. Recently I scanned the slide into my computer and cropped away most of the image, leaving only these boats and boathouse.

I guess I've had an off-and-on love affair with photography my whole life. My father was always taking pictures and movies when I was a kid growing up on Long Island, NY in the 1950s-60s, and he gave me my own Kodak Brownie camera when I was around 6 years old. I remember using it to take pictures of family events and a trip to Washington DC, back in 1958. I still have some of the pictures ....... somewhere. Photography moved to the back burner during high school, college, and law school, but I picked it up again after I graduated law school in 1979, moved to Washington DC, and began my legal career with the federal government.
