One of my favorite ways to photograph fall foliage is to find a tree with low-hanging branches and isolate a single leaf or small group of leaves and then shoot up into the colorful tree canopy and sky to get a multi-colored background bokeh. In the fall of this year, 2021, leaves in Washington, DC, turned color very late in the season, and this redbud tree still had some lower green leaves while color had started to turn above it.
I guess I've had an off-and-on love affair with photography my whole life. My father was always taking pictures and movies when I was a kid growing up on Long Island, NY in the 1950s-60s, and he gave me my own Kodak Brownie camera when I was around 6 years old. I remember using it to take pictures of family events and a trip to Washington DC, back in 1958. I still have some of the pictures ....... somewhere. Photography moved to the back burner during high school, college, and law school, but I picked it up again after I graduated law school in 1979, moved to Washington DC, and began my legal career with the federal government.
