A blooming water lily, its reflection, and lily pads in a large pool outside the visitor center at the National Arboretum in Washington, DC. Although I had been to the Arboretum many times, I had never been there when water lilies were blooming in the pools. It was a beautiful and calm sunny day, and the water lilies and their reflections were simply beautiful.
I guess I've had an off-and-on love affair with photography my whole life. My father was always taking pictures and movies when I was a kid growing up on Long Island, NY in the 1950s-60s, and he gave me my own Kodak Brownie camera when I was around 6 years old. I remember using it to take pictures of family events and a trip to Washington DC, back in 1958. I still have some of the pictures ....... somewhere. Photography moved to the back burner during high school, college, and law school, but I picked it up again after I graduated law school in 1979, moved to Washington DC, and began my legal career with the federal government.
