A pile of olives covered in oil for sale at a market in the medina of Meknes, Morocco. The food section of the Meknes medina was a still life photographers dream, with artfully arranged presentations of all sorts of food, from fish to deserts, to spices, and to fruits and vegetables, like this pyramid of olives.

Dating back to the 11th century, Meknes is one of the four Imperial cities of Morocco, and the sixth largest city in the country. While it's medina is somewhat small compared to those in some of Morocco's other cities, like Marrakesh and Fes, it has, nevertheless, been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

I guess I've had an off-and-on love affair with photography my whole life. My father was always taking pictures and movies when I was a kid growing up on Long Island, NY in the 1950s-60s, and he gave me my own Kodak Brownie camera when I was around 6 years old. I remember using it to take pictures of family events and a trip to Washington DC, back in 1958. I still have some of the pictures ....... somewhere. Photography moved to the back burner during high school, college, and law school, but I picked it up again after I graduated law school in 1979, moved to Washington DC, and began my legal career with the federal government.
