I photographed this tricolored heron at the World Birding Center on South Padre Island, Texas. South Padre Island is a slender thread of land between the shallow Laguna Madre and the Gulf of Mexico, and the World Birding Center is located on the southern tip of the island.
I guess I've had an off-and-on love affair with photography my whole life. My father was always taking pictures and movies when I was a kid growing up on Long Island, NY in the 1950s-60s, and he gave me my own Kodak Brownie camera when I was around 6 years old. I remember using it to take pictures of family events and a trip to Washington DC, back in 1958. I still have some of the pictures ....... somewhere. Photography moved to the back burner during high school, college, and law school, but I picked it up again after I graduated law school in 1979, moved to Washington DC, and began my legal career with the federal government.
