Description
This cow was in a pasture near Glencoe, in the highlands of western Scotland, and the flies would not leave him alone. At times he seemed not to care, but other times he would rub his face against a fence trying to shoo the flies away. In no time at all, though, they returned. I suppose that's just part of the life of being a highland cow.
Highland cattle are Scotland icons. Often called hairy coos, the breed's heritage stretches back to the days of the clans. They originated in the Highlands and Outer Hebrides islands and are mainly raised for beef. Their distinguishing features are their long horns and long, wavy, woolly coats.
